Are You a Member of the "Bad Luck Club?"

When I was a youth, I remember going to my grandparents on Saturday evenings and watching "Hee Haw." Yes, I am that old, and if you have watched the show or heard of it, then so are you! If you have not, well, you missed quite an experience. You had comedy sketches where people popped up in a corn field to throw out one-liners, bluegrass and country music, and my favorite — the guys who sang a particular song every week — Gloom, despair, and agony on me; deep dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair, and agony on me. And then group would start crying hysterically.

After all these years, I still remember their lament word for word. I guess these members of the "Bad Luck Club" shared a lament that I could relate to at points in my life. Is there a time in your life when you could relate to the words of that song? Are there times in your life when you have felt like you can't catch a break; you have nothing but bad luck? Have you said at one time, "C'mon God, give me a break?"

This Sunday we will look at the Apostle Paul's shipwreck off the island of Malta. His adventure found in Acts 28 is like the "poster-child" for being a member of the "Bad Luck Club." Join us in worship Sunday for this story and others who have felt like a member of that infamous club.
